Local modules set off Bangalore serial blasts: Police

Bangalore, July 26 (IANS) Local modules were responsible for setting off the serial bomb blasts here that killed one and left seven injured Friday, Karnataka police chief R. Sri Kumar said Saturday. He declined to elaborate on the composition of these modules or for whom they were working.
“Investigations are on. The information we have so far suggests that local modules were used,” Sri Kumar told reporters, a day after eight low-intensity blasts shook India’s IT hub, killing one woman and injuring seven people.
Life in the city was normal a day after the blasts. One more live bomb was recovered near a popular shopping mall in the upscale Koramangala area Saturday but the city remained calm.
However, the usual weekend buzz was missing from the sought-after youth hangouts like M. G. Road, Brigade Road and the Commercial Street in the central business district, about 4 km west of where the bomb was found Saturday morning.
Shopping malls and multiplexes reported drastic reduction in footfalls compared to the 60,000-odd people who visit them during weekends.
An overcast sky throughout the day and an occasional drizzle also deterred people from their weekend evening outings.
Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Bangalore police chief Shankar Bidri said the situation was normal and there was no need for any anxiety over safety as vigilance had been stepped up across the state.
Central minister Oscar Fernandes accompanied by state Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge visited some of the places where the blasts had taken place.
Fernandes told reporters the central government would extend all help to the state to put down violent activities.
Sitaram Yechury of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and D. Raja of the Communist Party of India also visited some of the blast sites.
