Large explosion rocks Kabul
September 17th, 2009 - 5:44 pm ICT by BNO NewsKABUL (BNO NEWS) — A large explosion shook the Afghan capital Kabul on Thursday afternoon, officials told BNO News.
The explosion occurred in a neighborhood that also houses the U.S. and British embassies, along with military installations, a spokeswoman for the NATO-led ISAF alliance said. She added to say she did not know if the explosion was near any of those facilities.
A spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry said there were a number of casualties, but had no exact figures. Italian media reported that the attack was targeting a convoy carrying Italian troops, and ISAF confirmed there were “some ISAF casualties” but was not able to say if those were Italian. A number of ISAF vehicles were involved in the attack.
The blast occurred at around 12.10 p.m. local time, and is believed to have been caused by a suicide car bomb.
