Kuwait seeks UNHRC membership
October 28th, 2010 - 11:51 pm ICT by IANSNew York, Oct 28 (IANS/WAM) Kuwait has sought UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) membership for 2013-2015.
The country’s permanent representative to the UN, Mansour Al-Etebi made the announcement during a UN General Assembly meeting Wednesday.
He said his country is committed to human rights and wants to participate in all relevant international events to safeguard human dignity.
“Out of this keenness, the State of Kuwait has decided to stand for UNHRC membership for 2013-2015,” he said.
The Kuwaiti legislature has been eager to ensure maximum safeguards for basic liberties through the constitution that stipulates the respect of public freedoms in various domains, he added.
