Kiwi schools ban phones to fight ’sexting’
February 10th, 2011 - 5:38 pm ICT by ANIWellington, Feb 10 (ANI): Some secondary schools in New Zealand have started banning cell phones in changing rooms in a bid to fight ’sexting’.
Secondary Schools Association president Patrick Walsh said today many schools had initiated the ban after students were found to be photographing themselves or others in various states of undress.
He said the images were then circulated as ’sext messages’, often between boyfriends and girlfriends.
‘They take intimate photographs of themselves and send it to their boyfriend or girlfriend, unfortunately as often happens with teenagers, the relationship breaks down and these images are then used as weapons against (them),’ Stuff.co.nz quoted him as telling Radio New Zealand.
Walsh said parents were usually oblivious to the practice and urged them to check their teens’ phones regularly.
Many public changing rooms and gyms have also banned the use of cellphones. (ANI)
