Kimbo Slice to compete in ‘The Ultimate Fighter’June 2nd, 2009 - 9:44 pm ICT by GD
After the EliteXC went defunct some months ago, Dana White, the president of the UFC made a public announcement concerning the former EliteXC heavyweight Kimbo Slice. As per Dana’s announcement, the only way Kimbo Slice would get a shot to the UFC title would be by competing as a cast member for the UFC show “The Ultimate Fighter.”
This means that for Kimbo Slice to compete in the UFC he will have to win his way through the show by competing in “The Ultimate Fighter”. The UFC flagship that has been scheduled for September will begin its first taping from this Wednesday the 3rd of June onwards. So Kimbo Slice will be one of the 16 contestants for the upcoming new season of, “The Ultimate Fighter.”
Kimbo Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson, became a cult figure by participating in gruesome street fights, the videos of which were later posted on the YouTube. The videos featuring Kimbo’s bouts attracted millions of viewers, which then turned him into a professional fighter.
While he fought for the EliteXC, he drew extensive attention from the media. In the meanwhile Dana White, the UFC president, doggedly mocked Slice for not having the fighting temperament and the ability that a professional fighter should have. The outspoken UFC president has in the past called Slice a “joke,” a “bum” and “not a real fighter.” On Slice competing in the UFC, Dana said that “Slice would get murdered if he fought in the UFC.” He even went a bit further when he said that B.J. Penn, his 155 pound lightweight champion would “annihilate” the 230-pound Kimbo Slice.
