Kerala to hold road shows in 23 nations to lure investment

Manmohan Singh Thiruvananthapuram, March 9 (IANS) The Kerala government will hold road shows in 23 countries to attract prospective investors as participants at the “Emerging Kerala” event it would host in Kochi, the major commercial city of the state, this September.

“Emerging Kerala” has been designed to take the state on a speedier development path through new projects. It will be held Sep 12-14. The government has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to inaugurate the event.

“Through this event we will showcase Kerala to the world that the immense possibilities that our state offers for investors. We have not at all been utilised by investors and through this, the image of our state is going to change,” Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here Friday, launching the “Emerging Kerala” website.

During the previous Congress-led government under A.K. Antony, the first ever Global Investors Meet was held in Kochi in 2003, which was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee.

“The difference between that meet and the forthcoming one is that this time we have come out with various projects in 26 sectors for the benefit of investors. We have also decided that this event will be now held once every two years on a regular basis, because follow ups are essential,” said Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty.

The state government is planning to invite foreign diplomats to the event.

A high-level committee chaired by the state chief secretary is being constituted to finalise and recommend a package of incentives for the projects in 26 different sectors.
