Keep Olympic budget in check: official(Lead)July 15th, 2008 - 3:24 pm ICT by IANS
Beijing, July 15 (Xinhua) A Chinese official has urged the organisers to keep the Olympic budget under control. He Guoqiang, secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC), stressed the need to further strengthen the supervision of Olympics funds.
“Supervision is an important part of our preparations. We should continue to supervise the use of the fund and keep the budget under check,” He told a meeting linked to next month’s Olympic Games.
He said a fresh round of supervision on the quality of all the Olympic projects should be implemented.
He, also a senior Communist party official, visited the National Stadium, or the Bird’s Nest, the National Aquatics Centre, or Water Cube, and the Olympic athletes’ village Monday.
“The Water Cube was built with money donated by overseas Chinese and friends from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. We must build it well and manage it well, setting their hearts at rest,” He said.
