Kathmandu, Feb 7 (IANS) A Nepali media mogul of Kashmiri-origin, alleged to have links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency the ISI, was killed in an audacious day-light attack in the capital Sunday.
Jamim Shah, whose Channel Nepal television channel was banned temporarily after airing a programme that wrongly attributed anti-Nepal sentiments to Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan and triggered anti-India violence in Nepal in 2000, was in a car with a companion when two unidentified men on motorcycle opened fire and injured both, police said.
Shah received a bullet in the chest and was rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj here along with his companion Mathura Man Malakar, police said. He died there.
Malakar received bullet wounds in his left thigh.
The attack occurred at 2.55 p.m. in the Lazimpat area, a place where many major foreign embassies are located.
A massive manhunt has been launched for the attackers.
Shah, a Nepali of Kashmiri origin, is also alleged to have links with Dawood Ibrahim, an allegation he had been consistently denying.
His Space Times media network also ran newspapers that later folded up. In the past, the Indian embassy in Kathmandu had asked the government of Nepal to investigate the funding of Space Times.
