Karzai’s advisor shot dead

Kabul, July 18 (IANS) Gunmen Sunday shot dead an advisor to Afghan President Hamid Karzai at his house here, Xinhua reported.
Jan Mohammad Khan, former governor of Uruzgan province and advisor to the Afghan president, was killed along with a guest at his house in the kartai Char area of the city around 8.00 p.m., an official said.
The attackers are believed to be Taliban militants. A fire fight erupted between his guards and the assailants in which one of the gunmen was killed.
Security was beefed up in the area after the attack.
