Kapur in sight of top-10 finish at Russian OpenJuly 26th, 2008 - 7:56 pm ICT by IANS
Moscow, July 26 (IANS) Shiv Kapur, who has had just one top-10 finish this entire season, put himself in a good position to achieve one more as he added a third straight sub-par round of 69 to come 10-under 206 and in tied 12th place after the third round of the Inteco Russian Open Golf Championship. Playing in his third season in Europe, Kapur has missed more cuts than he has made since April this year. He may well have been far better placed but for his triple bogey on the par-4 third hole.
Overnight leader Mikael Lundberg of Sweden held the lead as he was four-under through 16 holes and he was now 17-under for the tournament. Jamie Moul of England made the big move of the day, up from overnight 11th to second with a great round of 64 that gave him a total of 16-under 200.
Kapur got his first birdie of the day on the second, but then dropped a triple bogey on the next hole. However, between the fifth and ninth holes, the 26-year-old Indian birdied four of the five holes and turned in two-under. He dropped another shot on 10th, but birdied 13th and 14th.
Kapur had an eventful second round with six birdies and four bogeys for a 70 that placed him 14th after the first day’s sixth place.
S.S.P.Chowrasia, playing his first season in Europe, missed another cut with rounds of 70 and 77.
Benn Barham, gunning for his first title in Europe, shot a superb seven under par round of 65 to take the clubhouse lead at 14 under par. Barham fired an eagle three on the second before shooting birdies at the third, sixth and eighth to reach the turn in 31. Also at 14-under was Michiel Bothma of South Africa (66).
