Kandahar jail governor arrested for mass escape

Kabul, Apr 28 (ANI): General Ghulam Dastgir, the head of the main prison in Kandahar, Afghanistan, has been arrested after about 500 inmates, many of them Taliban, escaped on Monday.
Dastgir, the Sarposa Prison governor, was detained along with his deputy and four bodyguards.
According to the BBC, the arrest came after an investigative team including officials from the defense and justice ministries and the National Directorate of Security questioned them.
They will be transferred to Kabul, but are yet to be charged.
The inmates escaped from through a 360m-long tunnel, which led to a house outside the prison.
Afghanistan’s Justice Minister said the escapees must have got inside help. (ANI)
