Sep 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Ford Motor Co. on last Thursday was asked by a Jasper County jury to pay the family of the deceased Minor League player and New York Mets hopeful Brian Cole an amount of $131 million for the damages and loss the family of the player have suffered. Ford Motor Co. was held guilty for the supply of defective and unreasonably dangerous vehicle. However, Tab Turner, an attorney for the family of Brian Cole said to media sources that the family has reached a settlement with the company just after the verdict was passed. Tab Turner did not disclose the details of the settlement reached.
Brian Cole died in 2001 when he crashed his Ford Sports Utility Vehicle in the Florida Panhandle. The family had maintained that it was for the faulty car that Brian Cole had to lose his life. However, the company spokeswoman Marcey Evans mentioned in front of media sources that the accident was a “tragedy” for which the company offered its sympathy to the family, but added that at the time of accident Brian Cole was driving at a speed of 80 miles per hour and was not wearing the seat belt. She added that Brian Cole’s co-passenger who was wearing a seat belt escaped unscathed from the accident. Marcey Evans held that the Mississippi court “denied Ford a trial by excluding evidence that the jury should have heard”.
However, the family of Brian Cole is happy that the case is finally over. The family, which had alleged that the seat belts of the car did not work properly at the time of rollover and that is why Brian Cole was ejected out of the car, is happy that the jury had placed 100 percent blame on Ford Motor Co. and none on Brian Cole.
