John Grisham writing book series for youngsters to catch Harry Potter
June 12th, 2010 - 5:54 pm ICT by ANIJune 12 (ANI): Best-selling author John Grisham has said that taking a cue from the success of the Harry Potter franchise, he began writing a series of novels aimed at a younger audience.
Speaking about his new novel, ‘Theodore Boone’, the American author joked that he had changed direction to emulate the success of JK Rowling.
For his latest work, the 55-year-old author, known for his courtroom thrillers, chose to focus on a 13-year-old aspiring lawyer instead of a legal professional.
And the novel will be the start of his first ever series of books.
“Theodore is really an effort to catch Harry Potter. Back in the 1990s I was routinely introduced as the bestselling author in the world. I tried to pretend like it was no big deal,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.
“Then along came Harry Potter and suddenly I was number two. I’ve got to tell you, I really miss being number one. I’m going to catch Harry one way or another.
“My kids read Harry Potter when the series first came out and I was very curious to see what all the fuss was about.
“I enjoyed the books. At one point I found myself 600 pages into a book about a wizard and wondered what I was doing, but I see the magic,” he added. (ANI)
