St. Petersburg, Jan 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A wanted criminal taking refuge in an attic exchanged shots with Florida police officers on Monday morning when the law enforcement officials had arrived to take him under custody. The fugitive has been identified as 39-year-old Hydra Lucy Jr. who is supposedly the younger brother of former boxing champion Jeff Lacy. The firefight that ensued between man, wanted in various criminal charges and the Florida authorities, resulted in the demise of two officers while a deputy U.S. marshal received severe injuries in the ambush.
Michael Puetz, a spokesperson for the St. Petersburg police department later told reporters that the firefight went on for at least six hours on Monday morning before the authorities found Hydra Lacy Jr.’s body at his home. The spokesperson further revealed that the police authorities had visited Jeff Lacy’s brother’s home on Monday to arrest him with aggravated battery charge levied against him. However, things took a drastic turn when the wanted criminal supposedly started firing shots at the cops without any provocation. The deputies were, reportedly, on the look out for Hydra Lacy Jr. for quite some time now with Police Chief Chuck Harmon saying, “He was somebody we wanted to get off the streets. ”
The incident in Florida’s St Petersburg is the latest in a series of shooting rampages targeting law enforcement officers all across the nation. The shooting took place just four days after a murder suspect open fired at two Miami-Dade County investigators leading to their death. Later, the murder suspect was shot by another investigator.
