Japan PM denies trip to Fukushima nuke power plant hindered emergency response
March 29th, 2011 - 2:13 pm ICT by ANITokyo, Mar 29(ANI): Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan has said that his inspection of the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant shortly after the emergency broke out there was appropriate.
Kan’s comments come at a time when some lawmakers said that the trip- a day after the March 11 monster earthquake and ensuing tsunami- might have hindered the plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), from responding quickly to the rising crisis.
“Grasping the situation at the plant at that time (by himself) was extremely important and beneficial for coping with measures since then,” Kyodo news agency quoted Kan, as saying.
The Prime Minister also denied that it was a “political performance”. (ANI)
