Jamie Oliver says UK’s “idiot” binge-drinkers should be fined
April 10th, 2010 - 5:00 pm ICT by ANILondon, April 10 (ANI): British TV chef Jamie Oliver has blasted binge-drinkers calling them “idiots” who should be fined by the Government for the burden they lay on the National Health Service.
Oliver, 34, whose wife Jools, 35, is pregnant with their fourth child, was reacting to a TV documentary.
“Amazing documentary on BBC2 about Great Ormond St children’s hospital,” the Daily Star quoted him as writing on Twitter.
“We must start fining these idiot weekend yobbo binge drinkers 4 their cost 2 the UK NHS then spend the money on people that really need help,” he stated.
Earlier this year it was revealed that more than 40,000 drunken teenagers have been admitted to hospital in the last two years.
An average of 35 under-age drinkers a day were found to be suffering from alcohol-related illnesses.
“Jamie isn’t against people drinking alcohol sensibly but he’s angered by the increase in binge-drinking and its cost to the taxpayer,” a spokesman for the celebrity chef added on April 9. (ANI)
