It’s official: ‘Le Blute-Fin Windmill’ is work of Vincent Van Gogh
February 25th, 2010 - 5:38 pm ICT by ANILondon, Feb 25 (ANI): In 1975, Dirk Hannema, a discredited art curator, became the laughing stock of the art world when he declared he had discovered a previously unknown Van Gogh painting.
Now 25 years after his demise, Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum has said the notorious fantasist was right.
According to experts, the anonymous work he bought for 6,500 francs from a Paris dealer was the work of the Dutch artist.
New research has concluded that the painting Le Blute-fin Windmill is genuine and worth millions.
Hannema left the painting to Zwolle’s Museum de Fundatie in 1984.
“On the basis of his knowledge and intuition, he attributed the painting to Van Gogh and dated it as having been realised in 1886,” the Telegraph quoted a spokesman for the Museum de Fundatie as saying.
“However, due to Hannema’s dubious reputation in the field of attribution, this work did not receive much attention.
“Exactly 35 years after his purchase, he has finally been proven right,” he added. (ANI)
