Italy cruise shipwreck toll reaches 16
January 25th, 2012 - 6:06 am ICT by IANSRome, Jan 25 (IANS) The toll in Italy’s cruise ship accident Tuesday rose to 16 after a body of an elderly woman was recovered from the stricken vessel.
The victim was found with a life-jacket on the third deck of Costa Concordia, Xinhua reported quoting the ANSA news agency.
The luxury liner ran aground off the Tuscany coast Jan 13.
Twenty-three people are still missing.
A Dutch company has been hired to pump out 2,400 tonnes of fuels from the vessel.
There were more than 4,000 people, among them some 200 Indians, aboard when the accident took place. All the Indians were safe, except one who was missing.
