Italian quake victim asks whether he can live at Berlusconi’s house
August 15th, 2009 - 1:01 pm ICT by ANILondon, August 15 (ANI): Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been asked by a man, who has been rendered homeless by a powerful earthquake, whether he can move in to one of his houses.
Antonio Bernardini’s home in the town of L’Aquila was destroyed by in the April disaster, which killed almost 300 people and left thousands to live in temporary accommodation.
At the time Berlusconi called on the nation to take in those left homeless by the quake, and said: “I will also do what I can by offering my houses.”
According to Bernardini, unscrupulous hotel owners are taking advantage of victims, and thus he has written to the country’s Civil Protection agency asking whether he can take up the PM on his generous offer.
“This is not a provocation, but a legitimate request based on the statements of the Prime Minister,” Sky News quoted Bernardini as saying.
“Give us a concrete sign. If not me, then take in some other victims,” he added.
He even said that he would prefer living at Berlusconi’s sea-side Sardinian villa or his property in central Rome, “if possible”.
Whether Berlusconi has responded to his request is unknown as yet. (ANI)
