Israeli planes attack Hamas sites in Gaza
February 26th, 2011 - 8:23 pm ICT by IANSGaza, Feb 26 (IANS) Israeli aircraft attacked two military sites of the armed wing of the Islamic Hamas movement in Gaza Strip, wounding at least two persons, witnesses and security sources said Saturday. The attacks, which took place in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, wounded two people, Xinhua reported.
One of the targets was near the Rafah crossing point between Gaza and Egypt. Hamas controls Gaza since it routed security forces of Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in 2007.
The Israeli bombing came a day after Palestinian militants fired two home-made rockets into southern Israel. The rockets landed in Sderot town, causing no casualties.
Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked the army to respond heavily to Palestinian rocket fire, which increased in recent days.
Hamas has tried to maintain a fragile ceasefire with Israel by urging factions to restrain from firing the rockets and protect the higher interest of the people in Gaza.
