Israel calls for more action against Iran
June 10th, 2010 - 4:28 pm ICT by IANSTel Aviv, June 10 (DPA) Israel’s leadership Thursday called for more action against Iran, including more extensive boycotts by individual countries.
Meeting his South Korean counterpart Lee Myung Bak in Jerusalem, Israeli President Shimon Peres argued that countries should impose not only commercial, but also “moral” sanctions on Iran.
He also described Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the world’s greatest “moral corrupter”.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier called a new UN sanctions resolution against Tehran “a positive step”, but added that he hoped it would “be followed by strong action on the part of individual countries including those targeting Iran’s energy sector”.
“The United States rallied an impressive majority in the Security Council in the face of Iran’s defiance,” Netanyahu told a financial conference in Tel Aviv late Thursday.
“The resolution makes clear to Iran that the leading powers of the world are opposed to its nuclear weapons programme,” he added.
“The greatest danger to peace is that the world’s most dangerous regimes would acquire the world’s most dangerous weapons”.
