Baghdad, March 8 (Xinhua) At least 28 people were killed and 57 others injured Sunday in a suicide bomb attack outside a police academy in the Iraqi capital, an official said.
The suicide bomber blew himself up in the middle of a crowd of young men who had gathered outside the academy to sign up for joining the police force, an official of the interior ministry said requesting anonymity. He said many new police recruits were among the dead.

“It was a disaster, the blast was so powerful, all I can see is stains of blood, flesh and human body parts,” Haider Jasim, 20, an eyewitness said.

The attacker was riding a motorcycle and wearing an explosive vest when he rushed into the crowd of the recruits, Jasim said.

The police academy here has been frequently targeted by militants. Despite security gains in the recent past in Iraq, sporadic bombings by militants still continue.
