Iran to observe Nuclear Technology Day April 8April 6th, 2008 - 7:53 pm ICT by admin
Tehran, April 6 (RIA Novosti) Iran will hold its second Nuclear Technology Day April 8 during which the government would tout the country’s achievements in the nuclear sector. Iran has so far defied three rounds of UN sanctions in its insistence on developing nuclear power generation capability which several Western powers suspect is a cover for weapons development.
Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham told reporters Saturday: “Our goal was always to produce nuclear fuel and to develop generation capacity of 20,000 mw at our nuclear power plants.”
“Despite resistance from our enemies and the machinations of the US, we will announce to the people our new achievements in the nuclear sphere,” he said.
Iran observed it first Nuclear Day last year, on the first anniversary of the launch of uranium enrichment programme in the country.
Iran’s key nuclear partner is Russia, which has almost finished building the country’s first plant in Bushehr in southern Iran.
Russia delivered its eighth and final enriched uranium shipment to Bushehr Jan 28.
The UN Security Council passed a resolution March 3 imposing a third round of economic sanctions against Iran over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment. Two previous rounds of UN sanctions were imposed on Tehran in December 2006 and March 2007.
