Iran terms Mumbai blasts mindless, cowardly
July 15th, 2011 - 9:22 pm ICT by IANSTehran, July 15 (IANS) Iran Friday strongly condemned the bomb blasts that struck Mumbai Wednesday evening, and termed them “indiscriminate, mindless and cowardly”.
Three simultaneous blasts killed at least 17 people and injured 131.
A statement issued Friday said: “The people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemn the indiscriminate, mindless and cowardly terrorist attacks in Mumbai, which resulted in death and injury of a large number of innocent people. Such violence is not acceptable and can in no way be condoned or justified.”
Extending deep condolences to the people and the government of India, Iran expressed sympathy to the victims and their families and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
“It is not only against the tenets of all religions and beliefs but is also contrary to the noble nature of the human being. Iran is a victim of terrorism and is thoroughly against it in all forms and manifestations,” the statement said.
“As a principle of its policy, Iran is ready to cooperate at all levels to identify and eliminate the root causes of terrorism in the region. A recent anti-terrorism conference in Tehran seriously debated this issue.”
“Iran also appreciates the maturity which the people of India, particularly Mumbai, showed in the wake of these heinous attacks. Iran hopes that the enemies of the peace, prosperity and stability of the region will not succeed in their nefarious designs,” it added.
