Iran starts short-range missile production
March 7th, 2010 - 5:44 pm ICT by IANSTehran, March 7 (IANS) Iranian Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi Sunday inaugurated a production line for short-range missiles.
Brigadier General Vahidi said that Nasr-1 is a cruise missile which is capable of destroying a target weighing 3,000 tonnes, Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
He added that the short-range surface-to-surface missile will be capable of being fired from the air and underwater in the near future.
The mass production of the missile will significantly increase Iranian navy’s defence potentials, he reiterated.
In February, Iran launched its first home-made destroyer, Jamaran. The 15,000-tonne multi-mission warship is equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities.
