Iran sentences two jail keepers to death
July 1st, 2010 - 6:48 am ICT by IANSTehran, July 1 (IANS) An Iranian military court sentenced two jail keepers to death over the deaths of three anti-government protesters last year, the Iranian Army Judiciary Organisation announced.
“The court convicted two men to death… over the intentional beating of Amir Javadi Far, Mohsen Rouholamini and Mohammad Kamrani, which led to their deaths,” Xinhua reported citing a statement in the official IRNA news agency.
Following the presidential elections in June last year, Iranian opposition leaders claimed that a number of detained protesters in Kahrizak jail were beaten to death.
Iranian judiciary officials pledged to investigate the case and accordingly, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei ordered the closing of the jail.
The court also gave jail terms to nine other people, while sacking them from their positions and refusing to give monetary compensation, the report said.
