Tehran, Sep 13 (IANS) Visiting Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said Tehran and Islamabad have agreed to boost bilateral trade to $10 billion in the coming years, Iran’s Press TV reported Tuesday.
The two countries agreed to expand projects in the field of electricity transfer from Iran to Pakistan, Gilani said Monday.
“The enhancement of trade will promote regional peace and convergence,” he said.
Gilani and Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi pledged during a meeting to deepen bilateral ties in different fields and to speed up ongoing joint projects.
The two officials held discussions on cooperation in infrastructure, energy, banking, trade, agriculture, education, oil and gas.
Both leaders also called for rapid implementation of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, worth $7.5 billion. It is expected to be completed by mid-2014.
Trade between the two nations increased from $141 million in 2000 to $1 billion in 2010, the report said.
Gilani, heading a high-level delegation, had arrived in Tehran Sunday.
