Iran hails US withdrawal from Iraq
January 2nd, 2012 - 9:08 am ICT by IANSTehran, Jan 2 (IANS) Iran has welcomed withdrawal of the US forces’ from Iraq, describing it a “great success and political and security achievement” of Iraqis.
The exit of US forces from Iraq was a “great success and political and security achievement” for the Iraqi people, government, religious scholars, the lawmakers and political groups, Xinhua quoted the Iranian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement.
Iran also said that it would continue its “constructive role” in Iraq by offering its support to the country’s development.
Nearly nine years after the US-led invasion, the US troops withdrew from Iraq in December 2011 as per schedule agreed upon in a security pact between the two countries.
