Jetliner Aug 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Investigators are still in search of the person or persons responsible for a phone call which led to an American Airlines jetliner being grounded at an airport in San Fransisco, as the plane was searched and the passengers removed due to the telephoned hijacking threat.

American Airlines flight 24, which had 163 passengers and 11 crew members on board was already two and a half hours late at it began to pull out of the gate at around 10 am local time. Within minutes, it was sent to a remote section of tarmac at the San Fransisco International Airport, and grounded for yet another two hours.

According to police, this action was taken after a clerk who was working at a business in Almeda, which is a city located just across the San Fransisco Bay from the airport, had received a phone call which specifically threatened the hijacking of that particular flight.

As investigators and police began to search the plane, a couple was taken from the rear seating and led away in hand cuffs. They were quickly released and allowed to rebook their flight, and explained to the ‘Associated Press’ that the police told them that they were randomly picked for questioning.

The FBI confirmed that they were taken for questioning and released, but refused to comment as to why they were chosen. The government agency determined that the phone call was a hoax, and are still in search of the responsible party(s).
