Interpol issues arrest warrants against Gaddafi
September 9th, 2011 - 6:24 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Sep 9 (IANS) Interpol has issued arrest warrants against ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam, and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi, Sky News reported.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) made the request to the international police organisation based in Lyon, France.
“As far as Interpol’s general secretariat headquarters is concerned, Muammar Gaddafi is a fugitive whose country of nationality and the ICC want him arrested and held accountable for the serious criminal charges that have been brought against him,” Interpol secretary general Ronald Noble was quoted as saying.
ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo confirmed Interpol was requested to issue the red notice to arrest Gaddafi for alleged crimes against humanity.
The former Libyan leader has not been seen in public for months and went underground after rebel troops captured the capital city of Tripoli Aug 21.
