Inflation to be under control soon: Kamal NathApril 24th, 2008 - 9:41 pm ICT by admin
Dubai, April 24 (IANS) The Indian government has taken enough steps to check inflation and the situation is likely to be brought under control shortly, Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath said here Thursday. “We have taken enough steps to control inflation and hope to bring the situation under control as we have had a very good crop (of rice) this year,” Kamal Nath told reporters on the sidelines of a lunch hosted in his honour by the Emirates Bankers’ Forum.
“We are now awaiting the next crop (of rice) - the Andhra crop,” he said.
When asked about India’s ban on exports of non-basmati rice, the minister, who is on a two-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates, said the rice situation was still difficult in India and further action would be taken only when it became normal.
When it was pointed out that the large expatriate Indian community in the Gulf was suffering because of the rice export ban, he said: “We are awaiting the next crop and then we will discuss the matter (of exporting rice) internally.”
