Indian violinist performs in Trinidad and Tobago

Port-of-Spain, Aug 9 (IANS) Indian violinist Kala Ramnath enthralled a packed hall here with her scintillating performance during a show ahead of India’s Independence Day Aug 15.
Ramnath displayed her musical prowess at her premiere show at Queen’s Hall Saturday night.
Those who were present at the concert include Minister of Foreign Affairs Surujrattan Rambachan, Minister of Community Development Nizam Baksh, Senator Subash and VidyaRamkhelewan.
Indian High Commissioner Malay Mishra said that Ramnath’s show formed part of the 63rd anniversary of India’s Independence Aug 15.
Her performances in the country are being arranged with the Indian High Commission, Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation, Queen’s Hall and the Bank of Baroda.
Ramnath left the audience spellbound with her 75-minutes long performance.
She was accompanied on the tabla by Mahendra Prasad Sharma of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation.
Ramnath is of the Mewati Gharagana of the Hindustani classical musical heritage.
She has performed in five continents over the past 15 years and has won numerous prestigious awards both in India and worldwide.
Ramnath has also worked on the background score in the Hollywood film “Blood Diamond”.
Trinidad and Tobago has a population of 1.3 million people with 44 percent being people of Indian origin, whose forefathers came from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar between 1845 and 1917.
