Indian-origin duo killed over parking dispute
December 13th, 2011 - 7:09 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Dec 13 (IANS) An Indian-origin uncle-nephew duo was gunned down by a 20-year-old Bangladeshi national following an argument over his car being blocked by a van parked outside the Indian family’s hotel, a court has heard.
Ayub Khan shot dead 52-year-old hotelier Amarjit Singh Tiwana and his 25-year-old nephew Rajinder Singh Tiwana at point-blank range with a MAC-10 pistol capable of firing 1,000 rounds a minute, the Daily Mail reported.
The incident happened in August 2003 when the Indian duo parked their van outside their hotel in Forest Gate, East London.
The drivers of two other cars began blowing their horns after they could not get out. Amarjit moved the van and one motorist drove off.
Khan, however, was “furious”. He returned 10 minutes later with two other Asian men and started damaging the van. He then pulled out a pistol and opened fire, killing both Amarjit and Rajinder, the Woolwich Crown Court heard Monday.
He then turned the pistol on Amarjit’s daughter Harjinder but did not fire, probably because the gun had jammed.
Harjinder identified Khan in the court as the gunman. “I will never forget the face of the man who murdered my father,” she told the court.
Khan had argued with Amarjit and Rajinder, and shouted ‘look what you have done to my car’ and pointing to it as if it had been damaged. A witness said Khan pushed Rajinder in the chest.
When Amarjit tried to explain, Khan said: “I don’t give a f***”.
Khan later fled the country to Bangladesh but was extradited in 2010.
The court found him guilty of double murder and sentenced him to a minimum of 26 years.
Khan had earlier been convicted for robbery and possession of cocaine with an intent to supply.
