Indian athletes shine at London meet

London, June 19 (IANS) Indian athletes braved strong winds and chilled weather to shine at the Watford BMC Gold Race athletics meet held on the outskirts of London. In the race Wednesday, Sinimole Paulose, in her third 800m race of the outdoor season, clocked 2:03.79 seconds to win the gold while Sushma Devi finished first in 1500m with a timing of 4:22.51secs.

In the men’s 800m race, 2006 World Champion from Australia Craig Mottram led till 600m but his team mate Jeff Riseley and India’s Sajeesh Joseph and Rajeev Ramesan emerged contenders for top place in the last 100m. In the end Jeff won the race in 1:47.65 secs while Sajeesh was second in 1:47.89 secs and Rajeev third with 1:47.93 secs.

India also won the top-three places in the men’s 1500m race. Delhi boy Ravinder was first in 3:44.93 secs and Paritam Bind was second in 3:44.99 secs. C. Hamza finished third in 3:46.21 secs.
