Indian American Geeta Pasi is new US envoy to Djibouti (Lead)

Washington, April 6 (IANS) US President Barack Obama has named Indian American Geeta Pasi, a career foreign service official who once served in New Delhi, as US ambassador to the Republic of Djibouti in the Horn of Africa.
Pasi, who once served as political military officer at the US embassy in New Delhi, currently serves as the director of East African Affairs in the Africa Bureau at the Department of State.
Announcing his intent to nominate Pasi and three others to key administration posts, Obama said, “I am pleased to announce that these experienced and committed individuals have agreed to join this administration, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”
Prior to her current assignment, Pasi served as the deputy chief of mission at the US embassy Dhaka from 2006-09.
Other overseas assignments have included deputy principal officer at the US Consulate General in Frankfurt; political chief at embassy Accra; human rights & consular officer at embassy Bucharest; and political and economic officer at US Consulate Douala, Cameroon.
In Washington, Pasi served as desk officer for Afghanistan and for Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. She also served as a line officer in the Executive Secretariat. Pasi received her BA from Duke University and a MA in French Studies from New York University.
