Indian academy promotes Malaysian patriotic songs using traditional instruments
July 13th, 2010 - 6:15 pm ICT by ANIKuala Lumpur, July 13 (ANI): Recording of Malaysian patriotic songs like Malaysia Berjaya and Satu Malaysia using traditional Indian instruments are now available.
According to The Star and the Tamil Nesan, the Indian music academy Sangeetha Swara Laya has perfected the rendition of these songs using instruments like the veenai, mirdhangam and tabla.
Academy founder and principal Hariharan Subramaniam was quoted as saying that the songs would be compiled and the compact discs distributed to various organisations as a goodwill gesture to foster national unity and understanding.
He said the academy believed that music could cut across all barriers and that all Malaysians would be able to enjoy and appreciate Indian music.
The academy, established in 1999, is the first in the country to offer degree courses in Indian classical music. It currently has 12 centres with 700 students nationwide. (ANI)
