Zurich, Aug 4 (IANS) India topped their pool at the 15th World Junior Men’s Squash Championship here after victories over the Netherlands (3-0) and the US (2-1). India registered their second comfortable victory defeating the Netherlands 3-0 Sunday.

But the final pool match against the US was a close encounter. Ravi Dixit gave the perfect start defeating Thomas Mattson in straight games. Ravi was in control from the beginning and did not give any chance to his opponent.

Vikram Malhotra played an outstanding match against US No.1 Todd Harrity. Losing the first game tamely, Vikram clawed his way back to level the match.

The third game was a cliff-hanger with both players working very hard, but the Indian gave the momentum to the US. The fourth game was well fought but Todd held his nerve to win the match and level the tie 1-1.

In the deciding tie, Aditya Jagtap started aggressively against Alex Domenick and raced to an 8-1 lead against one of the quickest players in this tournament. Unfortunately, the joy was short lived as Alex fought for every point and picked up every ball that was thrown at him to win the game 10-8.

Aditya won the second but lost the third. But he bounced back and played aggressively to win the fourth and fifth games.

India beat USA 2-1: Ravi Dixit bt Thomas Mattson 9-4, 9-6, 9-3; Vikram Malhotra lost to Todd Harrity 1-9, 9-6, 8-10, 6-9; Aditya Jagtap bt Alex Domenick 8-10, 9-7, 6-9, 9-5, 9-3.
