India to take up Headley disclosures with Pakistan

Addis Ababa, May 25 (IANS) In the wake of fresh disclosures by Pakistani American terrorist David Coleman Headley, India said Wednesday it will take up with Pakistan the issue of the ISI’s role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack when their foreign ministers meet later this year and made it clear that Islamabad must “stop its hate campaign against New Delhi”.
“Our worst fears have come true. It strengthens our suspicion that the ISI has always worked with terror organizations,” Indian government sources said here.
“There has been a sustained hate campaign against India. This must stop,” the sources said. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is in Addis Ababa to participate in the second India-Africa Forum Summit that ended Wednesday.
The issue of the ISI’s complicity in the Nov 26-29, 2008 Mumbai mayhem and other terror plots in India will be taken up when the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan meet later this year. The talks will be held when Pakistan has a full-fledged foreign minister, the sources said.
“Pakistan has a lot to answer for; it can’t be brushed under the carpet,” the sources said when asked about the disclosures made by Headely, a Lashakar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative who scouted targets for 26/11, in a Chicago court about the direct involvement of the ISI in the carnage.
India will also seek the US’ support to pressure Pakistan over the ISI’s terror links when US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visits India for the strategic dialogue in July.
In a stern warning to Pakistan, the sources said 26/11 terror mastermind Hafeez Saeed, Taliban leader Mullah Omar and other terrorist organizations are finding safe havens in that country.
“Pakistan will have to get its act together. We are trying to pressure Pakistan,” said the sources.
The sources, however, indicated that India will continue the dialogue process with Pakistan, despite knowing that the ISI and some sections of the Pakistani establishment have been involved in terror attacks against India, as there was no alternative to engaging with Pakistan.
