India-Pakistan to ease visa norms: Indian envoy (Lead)
June 8th, 2011 - 5:12 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, June 8 (IANS) India and Pakistan are making efforts to ease visa procedures, and a second round of talks between their home ministers will be held in August, the Indian high commissioner has said.
India and Pakistan were trying to bring about procedural changes in their visa regime, Sharat Sabharwal said in his address to the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Tuesday.
“It is essential to promote bilateral trade to bridge the trust deficit between the two countries,” Geo News quoted him as saying.
FPCCI president Haji Ghulam Ali said it was vital for the two countries to exchange more trade delegations.
India and Pakistan do not give visas to each other’s citizens easily, unless visitors are high profile or have official backing. Both Indian and Pakistani visas are also city-specific.
