India, Maldives to strenthen bilateral ties
November 4th, 2010 - 9:22 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) India and Mauritius Thursday discussed ways to further strengthen their multifaceted relations, particularly in areas like health, education and investment.
“Both the dignitaries discussed bilateral issues relating to manpower, particularly in the health and education sectors, investment opportunities, increasing the volume of trade with the states in southern India, aquaculture, export opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs in Maldives, medical insurance for Maldivians in India and security issues particularly extremism and piracy in the region,” an official statement issued here said after a meeting in Male between Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi and Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed.
Ravi, on a four-day visit to the island nation, also thanked Nasheed for attending the opening ceremony of the 2010 Commonwealth games here Oct 3-14.
Nasheed discussed the importance of the coastal transport system in the SAARC region with the visiting minister.
Ravi later in the day had a separate meeting with his counterpart Hassan Latheef and discussed issues relating to the need for signing a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the area of expatriate employees as well as cooperation in sports.
