India, China must develop viable strategies for energy security

By Ashok Dixit Beijing, Jan.15 (ANI): India and China must widen their options for energy availability and develop viable strategies for energy security, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said today. Addressing the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) here, Singh said: “We can do much more to jointly develop clean and energy efficient technologies through collaborative research and development. India seeks international cooperation in the filed of civilian nuclear energy, including with China. The other areas that merited the attention of both countries were food security andprotecting the environment, as it is a common heritage that could not be abandoned or squandered. The Strategic and Cooperative Partnership for Peace and Prosperity established in 2005 was aimed at seeking a purposeful engagement in all of these areas, Dr. Singh said. As far as the boundary question was concerned, India and China were both determined to keep it peaceful, and their Special Representatives have been instructed to arrive at a mutually satisfactory solution. He concluded by saying that he looked forward to India and China playing a significant role in the transformation of Asia. (ANI)
