Beijing, July 6 (IANS) Premier Wen Jiabao has said that China regards India as an important strategic partner and the two countries would “take care of each other’s core interests and major concerns”.
“We will work with India to maintain high-level visits and take care of each other’s core interests and major concerns,” Wen said Monday while meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s special envoy and National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon.

Wen pledged to enhance dialogue and cooperation with India as well as make joint efforts to promote world peace, People’s Daily reported Tuesday.

Hailing diplomatic ties between China and India, Wen said the relationship had matured well. Political trust has deepened and remarkable achievements in cooperation had taken place in various sectors.

The two countries have also reached important agreements and made sound coordination in coping with the international financial crisis, climate change and other major issues, Wen noted.

He said China and India, as neighbours and as large developing nations with large populations, enjoyed not only profound historical and cultural origins but also broad common interests.

“A healthy, stable and dynamic China-India relationship is of far-reaching significance to the two nations, Asia and the whole world at large,” Xinhua quoted Wen as saying.

Menon delivered to Wen a letter from Manmohan Singh.

Menon quoted Manmohan Singh as saying that China was a great and friendly neighbour of India and that relationship with China was one of the most important foreign relations for New Delhi.

Menon said the two countries had established a strategic partnership. He said this had laid a sound foundation to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

He said India would work with China to jointly make development planning and create new situations for the growth of bilateral ties.

Menon ended a four-day visit to China Tuesday.
