Feb 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) IKEA’s Israeli flagship store in Netanya, was destroyed by a rage of fire that broke out on early Saturday, February 5. This was the first IKEA home furnishings outlet that was ever established in the country. This leading store was situated in Netanya, the north of Tel Aviv. However, no casualty was reported as a result of this accident.
According to the sources, almost 70 firefighters were required to get the situation under control. Ron Hadassi, IKEA’s Israel based chairman, said it would take several months to repair the store, that may even sum up to six months or one year, as it has been completely destroyed by the fire. Sources who witnessed the situation, described it as a mushroom of smoke that had accumulated above the store as it was set on fire. So far, no one is sure about how the mishap took place. The chairman said that they need to further investigate the matter to delve into the truth. He added that he has no clue whether it was ‘arson’, and they have left it on the police to discover that. However, he is thankful that none of his employees were hurt.
When IKEA Israel’s CEO Shlomo Gabbay arrived at the spot to investigate the matter, he estimated the loss to be more than NIS 350 million. However, he has assured that during the renovation of this store, he would take the responsibility of looking after his employees. Reportedly, more than 400 employees earn their daily living from the Netanya Branch of IKEA. As of now, the customers would have to rely on the Rishon Lezion branch, to buy the products offered by the company.
