London, Jan 9 (ANI): The uncle of Anni Dewani, the Indian-origin bride who was killed in her honeymoon in Cape Town, has dismissed Shrien Dewani’s earlier claims that he was pushed out of the hijacked car’s window before his wife was shot dead, and asked why he failed to ‘put up a fight’ to save her.

“It is so simple. A beautiful girl like that, two men with a gun - you know what they are going to do to her. I wouldn’t have left a dog to die like that,” The Daily Mail quoted Ashok Hindocha, as saying.

Dewani “told us he was thrown out of the window of the car. He could have struggled, he is not a small person - he is 6ft I think - and those guys weren’t big. He could have put up a fight. He had a chance.

He further citied the existence of text messages and letters, which demonstrate that his 28-year-old niece ‘wasn’t happy’ after the wedding and that ‘things weren’t right between the couple’.

Anni had reportedly sent a message to her friend six days before she died, saying: “Crying has become my new hobby.”

However Dewani, who is out on 250,000 pounds bail, has insisted he and his wife were ‘blissfully happy’ and has dismissed as ‘ludicrous’ South African claims that he masterminded her murder. He also alleged that he is being framed by South African police to protect the reputation of the tourism industry there.

Yesterday, Hindocha slammed Anni’s in-laws’ initiative to build a school in India using a fund set up in her memory, branding it as a “heartless” public relations stunt. He said her family was not consulted before Dewani’s family planned to use the money for building the school.

“This fund is for both families, we are disappointed, nobody told us it was going to be headline news,” he added.

The couple was two weeks into their Cape Town honeymoon when the taxi they were in was hijacked in the Khayelitsha township by two men armed with guns. Anni was shot dead by robbers, but Shrien was released unharmed. (ANI)
