Hypertension behind Madoff’s medical centre transfer, says prison official
December 25th, 2009 - 12:34 pm ICT by ANINew York, December 25 (ANI): Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff did not land in hospital due to assault injuries, the federal Bureau of Prisons has said.
The convicted 71-year-old, who defrauded investors of 65 billion dollars, the largest swindle in the US history, was recently shifted to a prison medical facility.
It was alleged that Madoff was hospitalised after suffering facial fractures, broken ribs and a collapsed lung in a jailhouse fight, reports the New York Daily News.
But U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Traci Billingsley has denied the reports, saying the con man was hospitalised after suffering from hypertension and dizziness.
Madoff’s lawyer Ira Lee Sorkin also said: “The Bureau of Prisons said that report was not accurate. Indeed, Mr. Madoff was treated for dizzy spells and high blood pressure. That’s all I’m going to say.” (ANI)
