Hyperion would also release the audiotape of the interviews, which are said to have duration of six and a half hours. The interviews would be released in 2011, and Jackie’s daughter Caroline would be the editor of the book and she has also agreed to write an introduction to the book as well.

These interviews were held after JFK was assassinated, and Jackie was in mourning at that time. Perhaps she agreed to do the interviews in the first place, because their family friend and historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. conducted them.

All these interviews are an integral part of the JFK Presidential Library’s Oral History. But they were kept under wraps, for an indefinite time, as Jackie Kennedy wanted them to keep away from the public eye. However since she died in 1994, so her daughter Caroline Kennedy has finally allowed them to be released to the public.

“My mother’s passion for history guided and informed her work in the White House. She believed in my father, his vision for America, and in the art of politics, and felt it was important to share her knowledge and excitement with future generations. It is a privilege for me to honor the memory of my parents by making this unique history available,” Caroline Kennedy said in a statement.
