Hunt for car seen near Indian kid’s body
March 7th, 2010 - 1:38 pm ICT by IANSMelbourne, March 7 (IANS) The police are looking for a green coloured car that was last seen near the spot where Indian toddler Gurshan Singh Channa’s body was found in this Australian city, a media report said Sunday.
The body of three-year-old Gurshan was found on Wildwood Road, Oaklands Junction Thursday night after a massive search following complaint by his parents who were staying in Lalor, located over 20 km away.
The police were now on the look out for a green Holden Commodore car that was last seen near where the body was found, The Age reported.
The police have not said if the driver is a suspect in the killing.
Gurshan arrived in Australia in January with his parents. The family was due to return to India as his father Harjit Singh Channa failed to find work in Melbourne.
Singh and his wife Harpreet Singh Channa gave statements to police Friday but officials say they are not suspects.
An autopsy has failed to determine a cause of death and his full-clothed body showed no signs of trauma, the newspaper said.
Gurshan’s death had caused an uproar in India with New Delhi Friday describing the incident as “most unfortunate”.
There have been a string of attacks on Indians in Australia, with one of them proving fatal. Nitin Garg was fatally stabbed in Melbourne Jan 2.
