Kandahar , June (ANI): The US-led troops and Afghan forces have reportedly cleared out the Taliban militants from the outskirts of Kandahar city, killing or wounding hundreds of them, mostly Pakistanis, Kandahar Provincial Governor Assadullah Khalid said.
The Taliban have been cleared totally from Arghandab district, The News quoted Khalid as saying at a news conference in Kandahar city today.
He added: They have suffered hundreds of dead and wounded and many of their casualties are Pakistanis.
Last weekend around 400 dreaded Taliban insurgents had escaped from a jail in Kandahar after a handful of suicide bombers stormed the jail killing most of the security guards posted at the jail. Thereafter, they reportedly intruded into the villages situated on the outerskirts of the Kandahar province, and many went up to their homes in Pakistan tribal areas bordering Afghanistan .
Only two days ago, the US had shifted its paratroops from a nearby province to Kandahar to trace down the missing Taliban extremists and were said to be reorganizing themselves and planning attacks on both the foreign and Afghan troops. (ANI)
