Washington, April 13 (IANS) Chinese President Hu Jintao and US President Barack Obama have exchanged views on bilateral relations and other important world and regional issues of common concern on the sidelines of a Nuclear Security Summit held here, a media report said Tuesday.
“We had a talk over phone recently, and have maintained contact through phone calls and letters,” Hu said when the meeting began Monday, China Daily reported.
This is the first meeting between Hu and Obama since the US president paid a state visit to China last November. The two leaders discussed threats from nuclear weapons and terrorism.
During their first meeting in London last April, both presidents agreed to work together to “build a positive, cooperative and comprehensive relationship in the 21st century”.
The Chinese president said Taiwan and Tibet issues represent China’s core interests and are key to ensuring a stable development of the China-US relations.
Obama said the positive, cooperative and comprehensive relations between the US and China are very important for both countries and the world. The US president reaffirmed his country’s adherence to the one-China policy.
