London, Sept 1 (ANI): For those wondering how food items like Caesar salad, Battenberg cake, Vindaloo came to be about, a book titled ‘What Caesar Did For My Salad’ will provide them with all the details.

The book, written by Albert Jack, reveals the marriage of Queen Victoria’s granddaughter Victoria to Prince Louis of Battenberg brought about the invention of the Battenberg cake, the Sun reported.

Another that was named after a person is the Caesar salad, which is less than 100 years old, and named after chef Caesar Cardini, who ran a restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico, loved by partying Americans.

One day he ran out of ingredients to feed customers so he threw together what he had in the kitchen - lettuce, croutons, parmesan, eggs, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce, and ended up inventing the Caesar salad.

The calzone pizza, which is a normal pizza, simply folded in half so it is easy to pocket and eat on the move, came about from the Italian word calzone, which means “trouser leg”.

When Dutch immigrants created a salad in America in the 17th century from “kool”, which is Dutch for cabbage, and sla, meaning salad, the coleslaw came into being.
